Elise Overland: Spring 2010

Overland's reputation as the it-girl of rock 'n' roll glam certainly hasn't wavered this season, as the designer mixed gleamy suiting with good ol' fashioned leather into her first runway show, along with a dash of Lucha Libre.

The front rows were packed with it-girls like Poppy Delevigne and Shenae Grimes, and it seemed like everyone had gotten the memo that "dirty hot" was the theme. The accessory-ogling alone was worth waiting thirty minutes for the show to start, as we spotted several now-sold-out Alexander Wang bags and a killer pair of studded Louboutin platforms.

We knew that Overland had credited El Santo as being a major inspiration for her Spring collection -- we even snapped a pic of her inspiration board inside her studio -- but we weren't exactly expecting such a literal interpretation in the form of an iconic Mexican wrestling mask emblazoned on a black dress.

The stand-out pieces, as ever, were the edgy ones -- here a gleamy metallic blazer, there a trim leather skirt -- and there were also some red carpet-worthy dresses that experimented with a more feminine draping, rendered in bright red and eye-catching bronze. There seemed to be an excess of ruching, overall -- from panels on pants to panels on dresses -- but hey, maybe we're just not big ruching people.
