The fashion committee of the National Arts Club will honor designer Betsey Johnson with the Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement in Fashion at a black-tie party at the Gramercy Park club.

A thrilled Johnson will also be presented with her portrait, painted by artist Dianne B. Bernhard and eventually hanging in the club.

The award comes at an auspicious time, shortly after the designer partnered with Opening Ceremony to re-showcase (and sell!) her legendary archive from decades past.  Perhaps that helped the committee to see that this was truly a well deserved award.
