After arriving on the tony uptown scene 41 years ago as Madison Avenue's first foreign boutique, the Yves Saint Laurent store at 71st street will close its doors November 14 and consolidate the brand in the 57th Street location.
A somewhat sad sign of the changing economy, the closing of the uptown YSL comes in a string of other closings in the area. Racked pays a nice tribute, however, reminding us to keep spirits up in anticipation of the designer's upcoming holiday sale in late November or early December, at which time goods will be marked down 20%. Discounted YSL is another sign of the times, albeit a somewhat brighter one.
