Now Open: Rag & Bone

Just down the block from APC and 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rag and Bone’s airy new Soho flagship at 119 Mercer Street has downtown genteel-types scuttling to unfreeze their Amex accounts. Outfitted in handmade fixtures and antique mannequins, the shop's interior is meant to evoke the craftsmanship and detail present in Rag and Bone garments themselves -- which are made devastatingly covetable against this new, slightly more mature backdrop.

The brand’s signature dirty-American-craftsmen via English-boarding-brat aesthetic translates easily into the reclaimed wood tables, chunky metal bookshelves and oversize brass mirrors garnishing the stark white walls and high ceilings. Long hanging racks built entirely of brass plumbing pipe -- an idea we’d consider repurposing in our own closets -- frame the space with a refined industrial chic that adds both function and personality.  Many congratulations are due to designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, who’ve quietly handled the monstrous task of translating a sophisticated vision into a beautiful and well-branded retail space.
