Mad Men Season Premiere, the Fashion

Mad Men season three kicked off last night by dropping us into 1963 New York, with the wardrobe reflecting the era's characteristic dichotomous undercurrent of burgeoning sexuality under the guise of ladylike restraint.

Peggy's trajectory continues in the new season up from typist to copywriter, complete with perky new flipped-up bob and slightly more tailored, snug dresses (albeit in her favorite drab colors). Joan, of course, still rules the roost in terms of snug clothing -- before finally retiring for married life -- showcasing that glorious figure in outfits strong in both tailoring and color (even brown seems to shine on her). Back up in Westchester, Betty Draper is rocking the prim preggers looks of the day.  Account manager (and professional twerp) Pete Campbell's wife, Trudy, made something of a fashion cameo in a hat resembling a riding helmet -- a small splash of the stereotypically rigid Upper East Side aspiring society wife.

We're fully back into the swing of the show, anticipating the delicious fashion just as much as the high drama to come.  More on the fashion-y elements of the show here
