InStyle Goes 3D for December

Lately, magazines have been slimming down - but the December issue of InStyle bucks the trend with their totally out-of-this-world 3D adventure Taylor Swift cover and "augmented reality" interior ad pages.

Miss Swift has certainly been on fire these days, having swept last night's CMAs and now, starring in InStyle's December cover.  The days of flimsy plastic 3D glasses are over.  Rather, readers can prop up Swift's mug on the cover to their web cam and (somehow) they'll see a 45-second video in which Swift comes to life to frolic with snowflakes and sign her autograph across the screen.  Like, whoa.

Once inside, the magazine is taking a concept called "gifting in 3D" for a test drive.  Ad pages at a 3.6% increase welcome newcomers YSL Beauté, Intel, Michael Kors, Nordstrom and Armani to participate in a click-to-buy e-commerce feature.  Each of the advertisers get their own customized 30-second video that pops out of a gift box.

Sounds groovy and, at the very least, a step in the right direction to revving up the publishing world.
