Welcome to Watch List, where we identify five things on TV to watch while you stay at home and make a dirty martini, which just sounds so DIRTY. LET’S GO!
KHLOE & LAMAR – 10:00PM Sunday (E!) This is the latest Kardashian reality show from E!, following in the footsteps of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” and “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami,” and “Kourtney and Kim Take New York,” and “Bruce Jenner Sells Crap on QVC.” This iteration features Khloe (you know her as the kind of big one) and her husband Lamar Odom of the Lakers walking around being Khloe and Lamar Odom. The premiere’s big issue: Will Lamar make the NBA All-Star team? You see, that’s why these shows are so popular. They really resonate with the common man. ANTICIPATION: KOOL!
UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS – 9:00PM Sunday (PBS) You ever read a review for a snooty costume drama and the critic says that the movie is “very ‘Upstairs Downstairs,’” as if you should know what that means? Well anyway, HERE is what they’re referencing: the classic British miniseries about oh-so-proper British servants and the snooty rich people they must serve. On Sunday night, PBS reboots the miniseries with this “sequel” set a few years after the original series ended. If you’re a fan of restrained longing and winsome glances, this is all you. ANTICIPATION: STIFF UPPER LIP!
THE COMEDY AWARDS – 9:00PM Sunday (Comedy Central, CMT, TVLand, VH1, SpikeTV) Usually, when an event is simulcast across five different networks, it’s some kind of telethon to help starving children in Montenegro. But this is just a plain old award show, so… I dunno. Anyway, it’s your first ever award show dedicated strictly to comedy, and in attendance are Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, and Eddie Murphy, who is receiving the special Icon Award. I assume they’ll be polite and skip over the past two decades of Eddie’s career. ANTICIPATION: FUNNY!
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE – 11:30PM Saturday (NBC) Helen Mirren, everyone’s favorite mature crush, is your host tomorrow night. She’ll be joined by the Foo Fighters. It’ll be very “Upstairs Downstairs.” ANTICIPATION: YUKS!
HUMAN PLANET – 8:00PM Sunday (Discovery) Ever marvel at people who can survive in wildly remote places on Earth such as Western Sahara, Siberia, and Ohio? This new Discovery series takes a look at how man is able to thrive even in places where he shouldn’t. It’s a testament to our hardiness as a species. Yeah, I said it. We’re awesome. What are YOU gonna do about it, emperor penguin? ANTICIPATION: MEN!
