Today's Paint-by-Numbers Romcom Brought to You by “Love and Other Drugs”

Hang on a minute -- first we have "The Next Three Days," and now comes "Love and Other Drugs." If we get one more film shot in Pittsburgh we're gonna have a trend piece on our hands. Somebody call the New York Times!

"Love and Other Drugs" reunites "Brokeback Mountain" co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway in an adaptation of "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman," the 2005 novel from former real-life Viagra salesman Jamie Reidy that offered a fictional account of some of his exploits. From the publisher's official synopsis:

Hard Sell is a witty exposé of an industry that touches nearly everyone in contemporary America. It reveals the questionable practices of drug reps, nurses, and even physicians. Reidy traces his ups and downs as a rep for giant drug manufacturer Pfizer, maker of some of the most widely prescribed and used drugs in existence, including Viagra.

At one point in the tariler Gyllenhaal lies about being a physician so he can see Hathaways breasts -- Tell us ladies, do you date this guy under any circumstances?

The film, which co-stars Oliver Platt, Judy Greer, Hank Azaria and a host of other talented folks, looks for all the world like just another romcom about an unlikely pair of people who initially hate one another and then learn they love one another only to find they can't be together before they decide to spend the rest of their lives together. This will no doubt end better than Gyllenhaal's and Hathaway's previous onscreen romance.

Edward Zwick, who co-wrote and directed "Love and Other Drugs," was the man who along with Marshall Herskovitz, created  "thirtysomething," for a brief time in the '80s capturing the national zeitgeist. That was a long time ago.

"Love and Other Drugs" drops Nov. 24.
