Shane Black Eyeing up “Iron Man 3”

Rumor: Shane Black may direct "Iron Man 3." In related news: There's apparently going to be an "Iron Man 3."

When it was announced that Jon Favreau, who guided Marvel's armored hero to two massive blockbuster outings, would not be returning for a third, it was rumored that the upcoming crossover epic "The Avengers" (directed by Joss Whedon) would pretty much serve as "Iron Man 3" (as well as "Thor 2," "Captain America 2," and, um, "Hulk 3 1/2"?).

However, The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that not only will Tony Stark be getting another solo outing, but that the man behind the camera may be Black, who created iconic super cops Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs in the "Lethal Weapon" franchise and who wrote and directed the criminally underrated "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" starring "Iron Man" headliner Robert Downey Jr.

All this is very much still up in the air, but we can't say we're against Black getting another shot at a big A-list movie.

Favreau, meanwhile, is busy putting the finishing touches on his western/sci-fi mashup "Cowboys & Aliens."
