New on Home Video: “MacGruber,” “Killers” and “Wall Street”

The best of the year's new movies on home video is also one of the year's dumbest, but there is no shortage of great films from days gone by out this week to fire up on the old electronic hearth.

"MacGruber" (2010)
Will Forte brings his "Saturday Night Live" character to the big screen in this ridiculously over-the-top action-comedy co-starring Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe. As dumb as it is, we enjoyed it. Comes in two versions, the theatrical cut and an unrated edition. On Blu-ray and DVD, read our full review and watch the trailer

"Killers" (2010)
Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher star in this action-romcom about a woman who falls for a guy who turns out to be a super spy. We got paid to see this fiasco and we still wanted out money back. On Blu-ray and DVD, watch the trailer

"Solitary Man"
(2010)
The film has a pedigree which has you rooting for its success from the moment the theater darkens. But this tale of a man (Michael Douglas) who's a constant disappointment to everyone around him is generally disappointing itself. On Blu-ray and DVD, read our full review

"John Rabe"
(2010)
The true story of a German businessman who saved the lives of 200,000 Chinese during the Rape of Nanking, stars Ulrich Tukur ("The Lives Of Others"), Daniel Bruhl ("Inglourious Basterds"), Anne Consigny ("The Diving Bell and the Butterfly") and Steve Buscemi ("The Big Lebowski"). On DVD, watch the trailer

"Wall Street" (1987)
It's the "Insider Trading Edition," just in time for viewing ahead of the release of "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps." Michael Douglas won an Oscar for playing Gordon Gekko, a corporate raider who teaches Bud Fox ( a young Charlie Sheen) some hard lessons. On DVD, watch the trailer

"The Player"
(1992)
Tim Robbins stars a the anti-hero of director Robert Altman's brilliant takedown of Hollywood. Altman and screenwriter Michael Tolkin received Oscar nominations for their work on this hilarious satire that features cameos from dozens of stars. On Blu-ray, watch the trailer

"In Cold Blood" (1967)
Robert Blake stars as real-life murderer Perry Smith, who, along with Richard Hickock, killed four members of the Clutter family and then went on the run for more than a year before being brought to justice. Based on Truman Capote's book of the same name, the film was nominated for four Academy Awards. On Blu-ray, watch the trailer

"THX 1138" (1971)
It's the "George Lucas Director's Cut" of the legendary filmmaker's first movie, starring Robert Duvall in the title role of this bleak look at the future that awaits us in the 25th Century. It's hard to believe that the man who unleashed on the world both the Ewoks and Jar-Jar Binks could make a film this sparse and thoughtful. On Blu-ray, watch the trailer

"Tommy" (1975)
Director Ken Russell and the band The Who joined forces to bring this rock opera about a "deaf, dumb and blind" pinball prodigy who heads up a Messianic cult, to the big screen. It's a bit of a mess, but the music is great and there are some stunning visuals. Stars Ann-Margaret, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Jack Nicholson and Tina Turner among others. On Blu-ray, watch the trailer"The Best Little

Whorehouse in Texas" (1982)
Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds star in this musical comedy based on the Broadway show of the same name about a small-town sheriff who fights a TV preacher (Charles Durning giving an Oscar-nominated performance) to keep his favorite bordello open. On DVD, watch the trailer

"The Black Dahlia" (2006)
Based on the James Ellroy novel inspired by the real-life murder of aspiring starlet Elizabeth Short, whose body was so horribly mutilated that cops withheld photos from the press. Directed by Brian DePalma and starring Aaron Eckhart, Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johansson and Hilary Swank. On Blu-ray, watch the trailer
