Despite assurances just last month from director Clint Eastwood, Charlize Theron will not be starring in his upcoming Hoover biopic, "J. Edgar," the role instead is going to "Gossip Girl" star Ed Westwick. No, wait....
Westwick has signed on to star as Agent Smith, a clean cut G-Man whom Hoover assigns to write his biography, reported Deadline. That is, until Smith gets a little too close to the truth--like maybe his alleged romance with his right-hand man, Clyde Tolson?( Thu Sep 16 06:30:20 PDT 2010 $__output )
Unfortunately, "J. Edgar" is losing Theron, who was to play Helen Gandy, the FBI director's secretary of 54 years. She is said to have spent the weeks following Hoover's death destroying stacks of the director's personal files. Eastwood is said to be pursuing either Amy Adams (awesome in "The Fighter," if you haven't yet seen it) or Naomi Watts.
Leonardo DiCaprio is set to play Hoover, with Armie Hammer (the Twinklevoss twins from "The Social Network") as Tolson, and Judi Dench.( Mon Sep 27 19:38:00 PDT 2010 $__output )
Theron is opting instead to play the Wicked Witch in "Snow White and the Huntsman," an action-adventure update of the classic fairy tale, starring Michael Fassbender.
For someone who's trying to get their career ramped up again, turning down a chance to appear alongside stars from three of 2010's biggest and best movies, in a film written by Dustin lance Black ("Milk") and directed by Clint Eastwood seems like an odd move.( Tue Mar 16 12:15:28 PDT 2010 $__output )
