Get Ready for “Shakespeare in Love 2,” as Miramax and Weinstein Promise Onslaught of Sequels

Perhaps no one is happier than Gwyneth Paltrow about the news that Miramax and The Weinstein Company have made a pact to crank out a slew of sequels based on the former's back catalog.

A press release (by way of Deadline) announced the blessed event:

The first films to be produced under the agreement will be sequels to Bad Santa, Rounders and Shakespeare in Love. The other potential sequels and TV projects are Bridget Jones’s Diary, Copland, From Dusk Till Dawn, Swingers, Clerks, Shall We Dance, and The Amityville Horror. This partnership augments an existing relationship between the companies on such franchises as Scream 4 (to be released April 15, 2011), Spy Kids 4 (to be released August 19, 2011) and Scary Movie 5.

Looking at that list of forthcoming "entertainments," the only one that causes even a twitch of excitement for us is "Bad Santa 2." And seriously, how stoked is the GOOPer right now?

Gwyneth kept a low profile for a couple of years, popping up her head only occasionally to make a small film or say something condescending about Americans. But in 2010, she's done "Iron Man 2," and is about to come out with "Country Strong" (imagine "Crazy Heart" for women), appeared on "Glee" singing the Cee Lo Green hit "Forget You" and is going to be in the upcoming Steven Soderberg thriller "Contagion." The woman is clearly ready to focus on her career again, and now she may get a chance to reprise her Oscar-winning role. Oh happy day.
