The Third Man Rolling Record Store Hits the Road

Jack White’s latest brainchild brings new meaning to the notion of an album’s “street date”. In fact, White’s Nashville based Third Man Records is taking the most literal approach to the idea of “street date” by announcing the maiden voyage of the Rolling Record Store.

While shelf space recedes in record stores all over the world and music gets passed around at the speed of sound, Third Man Records is going rogue and expanding its operation onto the open road. The Third Man Rolling Record Store will be the first of its kind; a mobile record shop, performance space and DJ booth. The truck is on its way to Austin, TX to make its debut appearance at this week’s South By Southwest Music Festival from March 16 through 20.

The roaming record shop will pop up at various locations during SXSW in the hopes of bringing the Nashville Third Man experience to a wider audience. It will also act as the site of the label’s two-year anniversary. In that short lifespan, the label has released over 80 recording including a number of limited vinyl runs and rare collectibles which will be on sale in the Rolling Record Store.

If you aren’t one of the many music nuts heading south this week, Third Man wants you to know the Rolling Record Store will be in motion all summer. While their summer plans have yet to be mapped out, The Third Man Rolling Record store is hoping to make appearances at a number of festivals and shows over the next few months. Keep your eyes peeled for the big, customized yellow truck seen below.
