Rage Against the Machine Guitarist Plays Occupy Wall Street

Following the lead of fellow musical artists Talib Kweli and Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum, Rage Against the Machine guitarist and regular activism fixture Tom Morello joined the crowd of the Occupy Wall Street protests to perform a solo set of songs as the Nightwatchman.

Morello, who received the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award in 2006, performed a similar set at the Los Angeles-based sit-in. Despite the less-than-sunny weather conditions, the acoustic appearance began at noon in Liberty Plaza/Zuccotti Park, with Morello playing a sing-a-long of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land.”

“It’s an honor to be with you here today,” said Morello at one point to the crowd. “I know in my heart all hell can’t stop us now.”
