That's “Academy Award Winner Trent Reznor” to You

So, it’s happened. Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch won the Academy Award for Best Original Score last night for their Social Network efforts.

It is—and this is an insane sentence to type—the Nine Inch Nails frontman’s first Oscar.

In his acceptance speech, Reznor said, “"Wow. Is this really happening? When we finished work on The Social Network, we were very proud of our work and happy to just be involved in this film, and to be standing up here in this company is humbling and flattering beyond words."

Reznor just completed an album with How to Destroy Angels, his project with wife Mariqueen Maandig. It will be released digitally for free before the hard copy. Reznor and Ross will collaborate again with Social Network director David Fincher on the score to the U.S. film adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

That Melissa Leo dropped the F-bomb last night and not the Downward Spiral misanthrope…well, that’s just another mystery to heap upon the pile. The Social Network score really is excellent, though, laid intricately with creeping tension and atmospheric nuance. Congratulations, Trent.
