Many of the city’s other free summer concert series may be in flux right now, sadly, but SummerStage is primed for a lengthy season. The festival’s organizers, City Parks Foundation, have released the full schedule of events (after a lengthy Twitter reveal campaign): the 2011 season runs June 7 to September 2 and includes concerts, dance performances, and classical theater stagings.
Pop and rock fans will likely be interested in the benefit shows schedule -- some of the only Summerstage events to charge admission. They are all held in the picturesque mainstage at Central Park:
June 24: Florence and the Machine (with Twin Shadow and Bubbles)
July 13: Ratatat
July 18: Emmylou Harris & Levon Helm
July 25: Wiz Khalifa
August 1: Lykke Li
August 8: Guster (with Jack’s Mannequin)
Other, free SummerStage events span the city and include performances by Talib Kweli and Wavves, performances of Shakespeare’s Henry V and Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, and more. Full schedule here.
