There aren't many voices that instantly telegraph yuletide, but Ronnie Spector – who, with the Ronettes and producer/then-husband Phil Spector, recorded some of the most memorable holiday tunes in the canon – is one of them. As she readies to sing some of her classics as the headliner at the South Street Seaport tree lighting tonight, the Harlem native ran down her favorite songs of the season.

Stevie Wonder, “Someday at Christmas”

I love this song so much. The lyrics are so heavy, but Stevie sings with such hope and optimism, and really captures the spirit.

Karen Carpenter, “Merry Christmas Darling”

The late great Karen Carpenter, I just love her voice... always have, always will. It's so pure.

 Wham!, “Last Christmas”

This is the catchiest Christmas tune of all time, why not groove a little over the holidays?

David Bowie and Bing Crosby “Peace on Earth”

My old friend David Bowie. This is an unbeatable combination of talent, and the message never grows old.

Ronnie and the Ronettes, “Sleigh Ride”

[I'll admit] my number one Christmas tune of all time is this one, by [yours truly].

The 28th Annual Seaport Chorus Tree Lighting Spectacular is Friday November 25 at 5PM.
