Jeremy Messersmith
Who: Jeremy Messersmith, the Minnesota singer-songwriter whose hyper-literate, hyper-melodic tunes just keep getting better. Messersmith is a busy boy: He’s embarking on an East Coast tour in support of the final installment of his album trilogy, The Reluctant Graveyard, released last year and sitting pretty on plenty of best-of lists of 2010 (including NPR’s).
Pinging off a just-wrapped Daytrotter Session, Messersmith—who also updates his website himself with new content every Wednesday—also just released a video of his song “Tatooine,” set to a construction paper version of the Star Wars Trilogy in under two minutes. (That’s below.)
The aforementioned tour brings Messersmith to Mercury Lounge on June 18 with a full band and string section; this is a rare occasion to catch him in such company. (Plus, string sections are just awesome.)
Download this: “Violet!” mp3 [NPR], off the album The Reluctant Graveyard (which is downloadable on a name-your-price basis at his website, btw)
