We’ve long been in the tank for singer-songwriter Leah Siegel, and so should you.
Her last album, Little Mule, was exquisite, her vocals are something like hearing Jeff Buckley sing hymnals through three layers of velvet, and she’s never not cooking up some new project (she also performs with the brilliantly rowdy Brooklyn Boogaloo Blowout). Her latest is the band Firehorse, for which she tapped Tim Luntzel (Rosanne Cash) on bass and Brian Wolfe (Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings) on drums, plus Steve Elliot on guitar. The sound is graceful, operatic and electro-scratchy all in one.
So, a few things you need to do:
1) Download the gorgeous free track Our Hearts (off the imminently-out debut album …And So They Ran Faster), and send the link to everyone you know: Our Hearts - Firehorse
2) Check out the video of another song from the album, Only the Birds, below; and even more excerpts on the band’s website.
3) Come out to hear Firehorse live Thursday night at Williamsburg’s Spike Hill. October 14, 10PM, no cover.
