Mad Decent Block Party Returns to South Street Seaport

As someone who scours the globe for the best in new dance music — and destroys dance floors himself as one half of Major Lazer — Diplo knows how to throw a party.

On July 30, his Mad Decent record label will do exactly that, hosting one of their massive Block Parties at South Street Seaport. Just like last year’s edition, the event is free to attend for all ages; this year, it features performances by Manhattan dance freaks Gang Gang Dance, dubstep duo Zeds Dead, and a host of Mad Decent signees, as well as a DJ set by Vampire Weekend’s Chris Baio and the promise of unannounced special guests.

The Mad Decent Block Party tradition began in Philadelphia three years ago, and became so popular that they extended the series to New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Last year’s South Street party packed the pier for more than eight hours, and if the recap video below is any indication, those in attendance had quite the time. We’d suggest clearing your Saturday schedule.
