There's a rather high-profile collaboration between two pretty formidable rappers in the works -- one that this writer has been monitoring with fanboyish zest all summer.
And we now have, at long last, the first available cut (no, not "H.A.M") from said collaboration -- "Otis," the fourth track off Watch the Throne, now streaming at Jay's Life+Times blog.
"Otis" is, as it's been said, "that Yeezy we all love" -- it opens with Otis Redding doing his "Try A Little Tenderness" thing for about 30 seconds before the sample starts to loop and Jay jumps in.
As the pair no doubt knows, there's no better way to appear reverent and "true-school" to hip-hop traditionalists than delving into the catalog of '60s soul -- which may be why this is the first we're hearing from Watch the Throne.
And West goes in on a world-class flow in his second verse: "Luxury rap, the Hermes of verses/Sophisticated ignorance, write my curses in cursive." Few have swag like Kanye; almost nobody can boast about it so exuberantly.
