Lauryn Hill Announces Six New York Shows

It’s very heartening to see Lauryn Hill get back on track. Output since her 1998’s wildly successful, Grammy-laden debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and her scant touring and new material has been overshadowed by rumors of mental instability, religious fanaticism of Vatican-provoking levels, and deeply erratic behavior.

Now, following the generally positive reviews of her Rock the Bells festival set this summer, Hill has announced an East Coast tour, which includes a surprising six New York dates--and at very disparate venues, too. She’ll play the hipster-riffic Music Hall of Williamsburg, the intimate Bowery Ballroom, and iconic jazz hall Blue Note, among others.

Tickets are currently sold out for all shows but the newly-added Blue Note dates.

The singer promised a 10-day European tour in 2009 but cancelled it abruptly after only two dates. So mind your manners, all: if everyone behaves themselves during this road trip, hopefully Ms. Hill will grace us with some long-overdue material.

As it is, she can take solace in knowing that she’s currently the saner ex-Fugee by default for not releasing petulant EPs about savagely far-fetched political dreams. But then, Pras really wanted to become sheriff of Mayberry. (Oh, wait...)
