Last-Minute Plan: OMD + Oh Land @ Terminal 5

Tickets are still available for a little slice of music history happening at Terminal 5 tonight: OMD are playing their first North American tour in 20 years.

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark are touring on the strength of their critically-lauded 2010 album History of Modern, fresh off playing sold-out houses in Europe. Founded in late-1970s Liverpool by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, and born of the same petrie dish that would birth bands like Echo & The Bunnymen and Frankie Goes To Hollywood, OMD have always been known for wowing live, with crazy visuals and spectacular staging that truly turn their narrative-driven songs into something close to theater.

So picking Oh Land as an opener is something of a perfect fit: The Danish electropop artist (real name Nanna Oland Fabricius) is known for all sorts of quirky visual and aural antics in her live shows. Case in point, her “contraption”: a handmade music box which she plays, above which float balloons onto which video is projected. Sounds complicated, but it’s magical to see live.

OMD + Oh Land, Terminal 5, Tuesday March 8, doors 7, show 8PM. 610 West 56th Street, (212) 582-6600. Tickets $32, available at terminal5nyc.com.
