Since the release of their self-titled, fourth full-length record last September, Interpol has been quite the bunch of busy bees -- and with the announcement of new tour dates in 2011 there appears to be no end in sight.
That's great news for fans in New York who were shut out of their long sold-out concert at the ornate United Palace last Friday. The show was a reintroduction of sorts for fans who hadn’t seen the Interpol play a proper show in the city since their Madison Square Garden performance in 2007. On the heels of their successful show uptown, Interpol has announced an upcoming performance at the illustrious Radio City Music Hall on February 17. The New York tour stop comes near the end of a three week North America run that begins in Vancouver, BC and ends in Boston a couple days after their Radio City appearance. The band then ships off overseas for a two week run through Europe. Tickets for the New York event went on sale today via Ticketmaster.
For those of you who missed the news, Interpol has toured as a quintet since the departure of former bass player Carlos D who left the band after the completion of their fourth album. On the last run of dates, the trio of remaining members was joined by Brandon Curtis of the Secret Machines and former member of Slint, David Pajo. The new line up allows the band to explore all the sonic ground covered on the last two releases where they introduced keyboards into the mix.
Like them or not, Interpol gets much deserved credited as one of the bands who helped reinvent New York indie rock in the early aughts, and hopefully they can continue the trend in the new decade.
Get a little taste of what they've been up to; below is the video for “Barricade” the first single from Interpol’s…. er…. um… Interpol, (Matador).
