Noncert Benefit Series Kicks Off at Cameo Art Gallery

Music for a good cause; it is a novel concept, but sometimes it’s tacked onto a show as an afterthought and the “portion of the proceeds” given to the participating charity is minute in comparison to what the band nets. This is simply one part of what makes the new series Noncert so intriguing.

Co-presented by BrooklynVegan, Noncert is a non-profit concert series that will kick off Sunday, February 20 at Cameo Art Gallery in Williamsburg. The events feature collaborations between prominent songwriters and the overly qualified Noncert house band. The first installment of Noncert will showcase the songwriting of Gene Ween (of Ween), Hamilton Leithauser (of The Walkmen), David Dondero and the organizer Dave Godowsky (aka John Shade).

The featured artists will play a set of original tunes along with a few carefully selected covers backed by the Noncert house band consisting of various New York based musicians who have cut their teeth with a wide range of artists including Jay-Z, Lou Reed, The National, Bright Eyes and Bon Iver.

Tickets for the event are currently available online through the organizations website. 100% of the proceeds will benefit music funding at public schools in Brooklyn. Step up and support a good cause while getting to see some of your favorite artists in an intimate setting.
