Foo Fighters Unleash New Single

Don’t get me wrong – I love indie rock just as much as the next listener, but every now and then you need to hear a band with more balls and less beards. This is why many consider the Foo Fighters to be one of the basic food groups in the rock pyramid.

Thankfully our diets will get a healthy injection of the Foo Fighters over the coming months as they prepare to unleash their seventh studio album on April 12, 2011. Wasting Light (RCA) will be the band’s first full-length effort in nearly four years and should serve as this summer’s most popular head banging selection thanks to producer Butch Vig who has made some of the best alternative albums of the last decade including records by Green Day, Against Me! and Muse.

Also worth noting is the return of the original Foo Fighters lineup which means that the legendary and former member of Nirvana - Pat Smear – was back in the studio with the band for the first time since the band’s 1997 album The Colour and the Shape.

Today the Foo Fighters released a stream of “Rope” - the first proper single from Wasting Light - check it out below:

In case you missed it, the band also circulated the video for “White Limo” off the new album. The super-heavy jam features Lemmy of Motorhead as the band’s chauffer as they cruise around southern California. See the video in all its low-budget glory here:

While the band has yet to announce any east coast dates, fans can check them out as the headliners for the first night of the Sasquatch Music Festival at the Gorge in the great state of Washington.
