Celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito says his struggles with weight prompted him to write his own diet book.
The book, "Now Eat This! Diet," teaches readers how to lose up to 10 pounds in two weeks by sharply decreasing the amount of fat and calories in their diets.
“And you know what? It worked for me." DiSpirito said during an event at Barnes & Noble Tuesday night.
"[I weighed] 216 pounds…and I decided to do something about it. So I just did what everybody said made sense — I cut calories, I started eating high fiber foods, I cut out the sugar, I lowered the alcohol, I did cardio, and guess what? It all works,” he said.
One of DiSpirito’s favorite recipes in the book is the fried chicken — he says he found a way to cut the meal’s calories from 600 to 280 without sacrificing taste.
“That’s what I did to every dish in the book. I took our favorite comfort foods and I made them healthy,” he said.
Of course, sticking to a healthier diet isn’t enough to shed pounds — so DiSpirito includes exercise advice in the book as well.
“There are three things I ask you to do in this book: watch your calories, learn how to cook yourself, and exercise,” he said.
“Just a little bit. Not enough to make you grumpy," he added.
