Equinox Purchases SoulCycle, Plans 9 New Studios

It's official: Equinox gym has bought spin studio SoulCycle.

Terms of the purchase were not released, but the upscale national gym can now boast a booming spinning clientele as part of its business.

The New York Post reports Equinox plans to add nine spinning studios to the existing six SoulCycle locations, currently in Manhattan, Miami and the Hamptions. A seventh was set to open Memorial Day in East Hampton.

A new, 2,000 square-foot studio is being planned for the Harrison, a luxury building on the Upper West Side, to replace the current smaller location.

The new locations will be in Manhattan and its wealthy suburbs, and in Los Angeles, Equinox CEO Harvey Spevak told the Post.

SoulCycle's co-founders Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice will stay on board, Spevak said.
