Grammy award-winner John Legend is opening both eyes and ears to New Yorkers about the HIV/AIDS battle.
His song “If You’re Out There” is undergoing a remix by an organization in Manhattan in hopes to raise awareness and testing. The music video will feature many stars as well as regular New Yorkers, according to The New York Daily News.
“We don’t have to wait for destiny, we should be the change that we want to see,” a line says.
Although John will not appear in the music video, other well known-faces such as Caroline and Dina Manzo and Teresa Giudice from Real Housewives New Jersey and drag legend Flotilla DeBarge will be mouthing the lyrics.
The video will premiere at the Safer Sex in the City fundraiser on Thursday at Duvet nightclub on W. 21st. Stars such as Broadway choreographer Robert La Fosse, WNBA all stars Sue Wicks and Kym Hampton, and the Food Network’s Ellie Krieger will all be showing their support that night, reports the Daily News.
“This organization is really taking people in from the street, and that’s what really touched my heart,” LaFosse said.
Awareness of HIV/AIDS needs to be re-charged because medications to treat it have improved, which enables some to forget about how potent and dangerous the disease is.
