Did Tom Cruise, who has owned in the East Village's American Felt building forever, recently pay $15.075 million for the townhouse at 42 West 12th Street? The Village Voice's Runnin' Scared blog investigated just such a rumor, and all signs point to...maybe. The six-floor, 8,000-square-foot brownstone—originally listed for $22.75 million in 2008, closed back in April.

It was purchased by an LLC, and the seller says everyone involved in the deal signed confidentiality agreements. Katie Holmes's publicist and Cruise's lawyer issued denials, but doormen on the Central Village block are whispering. The Brown Harris Stevens listing for the house is gone, but StreetEasy preserved some photos and the floorplan (seen after the jump). For what it's worth, area Cruise sightings could be signs of a still-active housing hunt. We hear he recently checked out the under-renovation penthouse at the Devonshire House on East 10th Street.

          Um, No: Tinsley Mortimer

Always taking style to the next level, socialite Tinsley Mortimer took the alarming trend of frothy, flowery embellishments and added some extra tiers. The result, alas, is more cake than fashion.
