Chow Down: Philippe Offers Chicken Satay for a Buck

Yes it may be chicken on a stick, but it is not merely chicken on a stick. Phillipe Chow announced Monday that it will offer its trademark chicken satay for $1 on November 1-3 from 12 - 5 p.m. to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Philippe Express, the purveyor haute Chinese's stripped down location on Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village. The joint also marked a move away from the name Chow, after Mr. Chow laid claim to the popular surname in a fight that would have been worthy of "Roxanne, Roxanne" vs. "The Real Roxanne," had the restaurateurs been able to battle rap.
The Philippe pop-up summer restaurant in East Hampton may be be as distant a memory as 85-degree days at the beach, but the quick-stop shop is here to say, it seems. In addition to the one-year mark, the Express location is also celebrating its soon-to-arrive liquor license, which it will commemorate by serving so-called "signature" cocktails the Philipptini (a syrupy sweet grapefruit concoction) and the Lychee Martini. A rep says drinks are on the way, but won't be there in time to wash down the $1 satays.
Making the Express of its name even more of a misnomer, the spot is also importing the dish its flagship is perhaps most well-known for, the Peking chicken (soo not a dollar), and for desert, Red Velvet cake.
Things are sure to slow down after all that.
