With word of MAC Cosmetics (a long-time sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week) eyeing Milk Studios as a possible second location for a new group of fashion week shows, it seems there's no time like the present to take a closer look at the good and bad of the fashion week system in New York. So the Council of Fashion Designers of America has organized a "town hall" meeting to allow people in the industry to air their concerns. Designer and CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg will moderate the discussion.

As WWD puts it, the "overheated fashion week system" has "long been debated among the wandering fashion week tribe." For evidence of the increasing frustration in the whole runway-to-market process, look no further than beloved local designer Jane mayle, who voiced her displeasure when she announced her plan to shutter her line. "That mystery and remoteness and insouciance have disappeared from fashion in order to accelerate the product. I feel I have just become another cog in that machinery."

The meeting, which will be held Thursday, July 28, at FIT, will no doubt have a lot of topics to cover. For starters, there's the issue of attendance -- just in case you haven't noticed, a week that was created to cater to industry professionals has lately been overrun by celebrities, socialites, and worse.
