Los Angeles Fashion Week may be doomed, but New York Fashion Week is looking to return on the scene in September back and bigger than ever. “There has been so much interest that show organizers are counting on the fall lineup to be even stronger compared with February in terms of the total number of presentations and shows,” says Women’s Wear Daily of the latter. In fact, participation for SS10 presentations is on par with that of SS09. So, in other words, the fashion industry is giving the recession a figurative flip of the bird.

Also surely responsible is the fact that this is the last season that NY Fashion Week will make its home in Bryant Park (presentations are being centralized around Lincoln Center, much to the dismay of numerous major designers). Also, “more designers, especially younger ones, plan to host presentations,” adds WWD. The change surely reflects the time as well, specifically the fact that young designers in today’s economy rely heavily on the exposure that a successful presentation can grant with regard to garnering buyers’ attention. Take that, LA Fashion Week.
