POP, NEAT: Bushwick-based artist Alicia Jo Rabins – the vocals, guitar and strings behind the rising indie outfit Girls in Trouble – apparently lured her favorite musicians into the studio with the promise of bourbon. No surprise, then, that the resulting self-titled LP is drawing comparisons to the liked of Leonard Cohen and harp-stroking sprite Joanna Newsom, both of whose oeuvres go better with brown liquor. Hear Girls’ melodic, spare gorgeousness at the J-Dub release’s party tonight at Williamsburg’s Public Assembly at 8PM.
TOQUE OF THE TOWN: If you sit in your cubicle daydreaming about sweating onions and boning ducks, get to 92YTribeca tonight, where a panel of food notables – from The French Culinary Institute founder and “Love What You Do: Building a Career in the Culinary Industry” co-author Dorothy Hamilton to toquon (toque + icon) David Bouley – will discuss the ins and outs of the biz and what it takes to make it. HOT STUFF: Or, you could leave food and drink preparation to the experts, and just enjoy the bacchanalian consumption of both.
