If there's a perfect time to hop on the ferry to Liberty Island, it's this Saturday morning, as folks gather to celebrate two special occasions.

The U.S. celebrates her 233rd birthday this Independence Day, and the Statue of Liberty's crown, which has been shuttered for 8 years, opens to the public once again.

To commemorate the occasion, Broadway star Sasha Allen, best known for her role as Dionne in "Hair," will sing "Huddled Masses," from the musical "Liberty." It's an appropriate selection. The musical tells the story of the famous statue, which arrived from France in 1884, as Americans and new immigrants struggled to co-exist. Kids from the City Lights Youth Theatre will accompany Allen before performing some of their own pieces.

If you're hoping to climb the 354 steps to the top of Lady Liberty, you should get tickets ahead of time, and show up early.  Only 240 visitors, selected by lottery, can make it to the top each day.

The ribbon cutting kicks off at 9 a.m. and performances begin at 9:30.

Tickets, which cover the ferry and admission, range from  $8 for kids, to $15 for adults. Seniors pay $13.

          Um, No: Tinsley Mortimer
